Why do we love this wine?

This wine label preserves a piece of South Australian winemaking history. This is in the old-school vein. 40+ year old vines. Basket pressed fruit. 18 months maturation in a mixture of French and American oak. It comes across as a traditional Mclaren Vale beauty. Ripe and rich but not overblown. First thing’s first - there’s an enticing nose of dark plums, cooking chocolate and cherry kir for an intro, with cedary spicy notes backing up the rear. There’s similar gear on the plush, velvety palate. It’s a warm embrace - a big cuddle that refuses to let go. Macerated blueberries and plum are supported by a gentle bed of tannins and gentle acidity. There’s nothing poking out. It’s all integrated providing one solid ride from start to finish. Tally ho!
